Default Early Cambelt change ?

I'm about to give my car a service (or maybe ask Lates!) and can't decide whether to change the cambelt. The mileage is only 24,882 and the belt change is in the 30,000 mile service.

Odd it's at 30k, for the 4 cyl K series it's due at 60,000.

Simon
If the car is either 90k or 6yrs for the KV6 or 5yrs or 60k miles for the 1.8 is my understanding.

However if it is due, then the recommendation is to have the water pump done at the sime time as it is accessible during the belt swap.

Sorry chaps - I meant to type 60,000 not 30,000. Am engaging brain now.

What's the general opinion on the cambelt at 30,000?

From a safety view there is no harm in it at all, for the sake of around £20-£30 for a belt + fitting if paying for labour, still works out a lot cheaper than 16 valves!

Oh the joy of Timing Chains, another good reason for running the Diesel Unit.

It's not the cost of the belt that I'm thinking about - it's the £300+ charge for labour! (24 valves on this one btw).

I wonder if there's a mod for switching to chain drive instead of belt drive!!

I'd have it done at the correct interval or slightly sooner, I don't see the point of doing this major task unless it is necessary and I'd have the water pump and the temp switch and thermostat done at the same time as these do tend to leak at some point and by doing this with cam belt you save a whole heap of money on labour, Lates done all this work on mine and i'd highly recommend him.

Is this correct, it's just that my local ex dealer told me the belt was due at 90,000 on my 1.8T, and as it was just changed when the head gasket was done I thought I need never worry about it again.

It was for both our 1400 K series ones, may be different for the 1800 Ks
