MG ZT VIN Numbers

Chaps - is there a site somewhere which lists the VINs by date of production and correlates this with production changes? I'm trying to find out if an Australian ZT-T with a VIN: SARRJXTFF2D253854 has the very tight early suspension, or the softer later version.

Simon - thanks for the link, that will be helpful. I was wondering though if there is a way of just using the VIN to detect that initial softening that took place in the early days of production of the ZT. Mind you, this is hearsay to me, I don't quite know where I picked it up, so there may not have been such a simple changeover point. Out here though, the used car prices have an August 2002 point after which the cars seem to have a different value. I was assuming that it was due to this suspension change, but it might be due to other equipment changes. Bear in mind that we only have the V6 180 and 190 (and the V8) versions out here, and none were ever called "sports".

Malcolm, the softer suspension came in a few months after I bought mine in June 2002 and mine was a factory build ordered with sunroof and different alloys. The harder suspension then became a sports option.

However, if Australia was like South Africa, then perhaps yours was one of a batch shipped out to the dealers. I am not sure if you would have been able to order a specific set of options on yours or whether it was a case of buying what was available in that shipment. So it might be possible your car could be up to 6 moths or more older than when it was first registered? In which case it may well have the harder set-up.

It could have been me that mentioned it when I saw you earlier this year.

BTW I hope you and the SA are safely home?

This indicates that your car was a very early build as the '2002 Model Year' cars are likely to have come off the line in 2001 or v. early 2002 (i.e my car was a '2001 model year' but was built in Dec 2000.

My money is on your car being an early ZT-T.

My car is S************245771 which is a model year 2002 Rover 75 Tourer that from the information I have been able to acrue was built in December 2001, so yours would have been very early 2002 build.

Malcolm, it comes up as:
VIN:SARRJXTFF2D253854, MG Rover, Rover 75 and MG ZT, Class 5.1, Tourer, Normal Aspiration, V6, 24V, MPi, 190PS, High performance, Petrol, 2500 cc, K Series, 5 Speed, RHD, Manual, Model Year: 2002, S/N: 253854
If you use your Vin Number to order or use EPC the correct part for your car would be selected.
The easiest way is the colour coding Previously mentioned or the Codes. Colours for your model were Brown/Brown or Brown/Red on Fronts.
