Synergy Fitting
Fitted my new Synergy last night and very pleased with the results. Much quicker from 50 to 80. I was wondering where other people have located their temperature sensor wire. I have fastened mine to the bulkhead behind the engine as I didn't really want to make holes in the air filter housing. Seems OK and the instructions indicated that it does not have to be in the air inlet stream, but wondered what others had done and what results they had achieved.

Hi Steve,
I fitted my Synergy about 5 weeks ago and have been very pleased with the results . I decided to cut a slit in the grommet and leave the temperature sensor hanging in the plenum.....however, I think I'm correct in saying that the standard, Bosch MAF doesn't need this anyway - it's only used in conjunction with the Pierburgh MAF. As I was cutting slits in the grommets to fit my on/off switch to the dashboard in any case, I didn't mind shovving the temp sensor through the grommet too. I used the Synergy switched on and set to 10, with the MAF switch on too when I was towing my caravan. With the MAF section switched on, there was more pull from low revs (which is great when you've got a caravan on the rear) but a lot more smoke when accelerating and cruising. Now I'm solo again, I'm using setting 6 with the MAF part switched off. Hope that's useful. Steve |

Interesting point about the Bosch MAF not needing the temperature sensor. Wonder if Ron can comment on this. I think the wire for the built in sensor may not be connected on the MAF now, even though I am still using the Bosch MAF.

sadly, its a complete override once the Synergy is fitted. I had hoped that the Bosch one would use its own, but Ron said that they (i.e. the synergy's one) are pretty reliable.

Some owners have said placing the IAT in a warmer location (eg on top of the air filter housing improves mpg but I've not tried this. In theory it should slightly reduce the power as the ecu will reduce the fuel to match what it sees as less dense air. No harm in trying it over a tankful of fuel, though our Indian Summer isn't ideal for comparing locations. Ron
