wet wet wet
Last couple of days I smelled a sort of musty smell in the car, and last night I noticed the rear window had steamed up on the inside for no apparent reason.
Tonight I found out why: wet carpet in the driver's footwell, and an even worse puddle in the rear footwell, also driver's side. Front & back, driver's side only. Passenger side bone dry. Got to thinking, "Why?". Checked plenums (which I do regularly, and I have Jules' plenum guard): bone dry. Windows left open during rain? Nope. Leaky dooor seals? No - no evidence of any water having been on the inside of the doors. And I do not have a sun roof. Then I remembered the torrential rain we had on Saturday (affected a lot of south Essex where I live). I was not out in it - car was parked in the driveway next to the house. But could the deluge (which was truly a monsoon and caused major flooding locally, as you might have seen on the news) have run off down the windscreen scuttle drains, filled up the plenums too quick for them to drain properly, and found its way into the car? Anway, did best to mop it up tonight, but obviously the carpets still squelch a lot due to the foam underlay beong saturated. What should I do? Leave to dry naturally? Leave a fan heater in the car for a bit? Or is it carpets (and therefore seats) out? Advice appreciated.

I think its carpets out. They hold an enormous amount of water when wet.

You are wise to consider the scuttle as a source of water ingress. My CDT was damp when I bought it, I was told that it was a door seal that the garage had replaced, but eventually the water level in the car was above the carpets in the drivers footwell. I asked the Rover guru Jules for advice, and he said seal your scuttle clips, I did this and no more water.

It's carpets out I'm afraid ! My drivers side carpet front and rear got soaked just winter due to leaking sunroof drains, not your source of water I know. I put a 800w oil filled radiator, drum fan and de-humidifier in the car and had them on constantly for a week. I got about 12 litres of water out of the de-humidifier until the interior was so dry it couldn't extract anymore. The carpets were dry to the touch so I thought I'd solved it. Checked the foam underside only to find it was still soaking wet ! Once the carpets were out it look 10 days in the spare bathroom with the dehumidifier and heater on to dry them out and I lost count of the number of times I emptied the dehumidifier.

Scuttle Clips
Reference the suggestion to seal scuttle clips, what would one seal them with that you would be able to take them at a future date, and I would also presume they would be the seven that run across the bottom of the windscreen.

You need to remove the wipers, scuttle clips and scuttlepanel. Then remove the scuttle clip seats, silicone them back in place and job done. I think Arctic wrote the definitive method of how to do this.

Also worth checking your rear door seal, they come apart from the door at the rear where it bends inwards.
