from the info i have , think its fair to assume the that the phone is going to be locked to the Vodafone network.

If you still have a contract with them, ring them up, they should unlock it for a nominal sum....

I think you can just call them and ask them to unlock it anyway, they can't refuse and may make a nominal change in that case, if you still have online access there is a form to fill in there for unlocking.

Any phone can be unlocked so long as it's still not tied to a contract but even then this can be done at a cost.
But after a contract has finished you can contact the original provider to unlock the phone, there should be no charge for this. Vodafone: Call 08700 77 66 55 or 191 from your iPhone.
