Overheating 1.8 Petrol
My 75 has had its Inlet Manifold changed as it was leaking water very bad, come back from the garage today and it’s still overheating!
Has anyone had this problem before and could help me identify the problem? it’s going back in to the garage on Monday 🙄 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Make sure it has been bled properly, the 1.8 can hold an airlock easily.

You also need to check that the cap on the expansion bottle is opening at the right pressure (an old one might be weak).
And don't assume a new, non-genuine one will be correct either - always get it checked (from memory, they should open around 14psi ) or better still fit a genuine one.

Maybe, if your overheating consists of leakage at the filler cap, it has been overfilled? Check the level , when cold. The mark is very low in the expansion tank, if you cannot see the external marks. When filling, if it is done extremely slowly, there should be no airlocks.
Good luck. |

Is it the plastic inlet manifold fitted to your car, and is your car turbo or non turbo?
A very useful upgrade which I have done a few times on the 25 / 45 / ZR / ZS is fit the VVC style manifold which is aluminum. You need the one of a MGTF 135bhp. Silver one rather than the black one. I've not fitted one on a 75, but I cant see it being any different. You dont get the leaking water problem because the alloy manifold doesn't warp so easy. As to your over heating, all the advice given above is spot on. I'd go for a bleed first of all. On the 25 / 45 they have a habit of circulating around the heater matrix and refuse to circulate around the radiator sometimes. Air in just the wrong position wont allow flow through the rest of the system.

They have actually changed the manifold, or just replaced the gasket? ....and, you say "still overheating" it was overheating when it went in for repair, do you think that was down to the coolant loss, or the coolant loss came about because of the overheating?
