Non Starter - 2002 CDTi
Hi Guys and Girls,
The story so far; Needed a new clutch so decided to give it a go, three days later its in and I needed to return to London from Lincolnshire, get dad to follow me back and make it 140 miles without problem, then just as I get onto the M25 engine goes dead! 3am finally get recovered home. No problems with the clutch, feels great. Recovery man plugged in and said crankshaft sensor, however the taco moves when cranking so I'm thinking this is not the cause of the problem. There is fuel as the common rail is under pressure when its trying to turn over. Does anyone have a T4 near to Romford? I've plugged in my OBD and no faults recorded. Just moved house last week and so no money for garage etc Any help much appreciated. BW Jonathan

Did he give you the fault code ?

Even with fuel pressure, as it's a MK 1 I assume he checked the UBP? Did he try Easy Start?

No, ill give that a try and check if the in tank pump is working.

Hi
I changed both pumps on mine with cheap patterned parts. Long story, broke down after a year, I thought both my pumps were working, went round the block trying to find the cause, lucking without spending money. Eventually found in tank pump had packed up and the under bonnet one didn't have a strong flow rate. Replaced with original equipment makes and it runs perfect. I got the vdo in tank one from jules, the pierburg under bonnet nos off ebay. Make sure you replace the in tank one with a vdo. You don't want to do that job twice. The under bonnet one is an easy job. It's awful when your car stops because of low rail pressure, it's best to do the job once. |

Shortly after buying my ZTT it left me stranded. I noticed the fuel tank was 1/4 full, and had a vague recollection of reading about the intank pump problems whilst I was researching whether to buy a 75 (or ZT).
I was beside a busy main road, so I wouldn't have heard the intank pump whether it was running or not. I had nothing to lose, so I added some more fuel and it fired up. I got it to a quieter area, put my ear to the filler cap, and I couldn't hear a thing - so the pump was definitely dead. I replaced my in tank pump with a Peugeot pump - It cost about £25. I retained the Rover pump frame, but removed the pump itself and put the Peugeot pump in its place. It took a little fettling, but it has run fine for over a year. However, I always make sure the fuel tank is over 1/4 full, and carry a spare UBP........... just in case. |

So no noise from the rear offside seat with the key in position 2! Put 2 gallons of diesel into the car and tried to crank it, a few gores and then flat battery as its been sitting for a week or more, battery currently charging so will try again later once I have enough charge in it.
