Thanks for the kind words but the point i was trying to make is that a young person CAN build good cars if they are prepared to put in the blood, sweat and tears...plus cash. Hopefully inspiration for the original poster - who seems to have gone very quiet.

I accept that back in my day things were easier in some respects but generally people are a little better off now and the internet makes finding parts and info many times easier.

Perhaps I should start a new thread...cars I built nearly 40 years ago?

You do indeed...pure inspiration for many a young upstart like myself. It was the 1981 Customer Car Show at Olympia. I remember being a) very nervous and b) struggling with a bad cold as I drove east to west across London for the set-up day. Were you 'involved' in that world back then?

I used to go to a lot of shows back then, didn't get my own car (100e with a V6) until the early 90's though.

Adrian, correction noted and I will be more careful when I stray in to my aged memory- "Glass hammer and rubber screwdriver" mind you I had been warned by my Royal Navy friend about looking for "the golden rivet"!! What a colourful and interesting language we had before the BaderMeinoff P.C. got at us. Chris S.
