Thanks for confirming: I stared at it for a full minute trying to detect whether some white parts were wider than others and couldn't find that to be the case.

Indeed, as the club badge is in the shape of a shield, and not a flag, the design should not be mistaken for a Union Jack.

Mind you, a handbag, a tail fin, Mrs. Thatcher and the CEO of British Aiways springs to mind.

I seem to remember he got out of trouble by claiming that it was the Chatham (Naval Dockyard) Design.

Regards

Mike

It's also surprising that so few actually know about the other flags incorporated in The Union Flag. My standard was last set on St. George's Day and will fly again on 8th May.

I always thought that if there’s no flagpole shown, it is assumed to be on the left.

'Rotating 180 degrees' - if by this you mean rotating say a photo, it will make no difference.

But by turning the flag so that what was the bottom at the front becomes the top at the back ie turning it over, It will make every difference, removing the distress, one might say!

Any ex-serviceman who ever had to raise or lower a flag will know the rope (I forget its proper name) that is sewn into the flagpole side of the flag, is longer at the bottom than the top. Two reasons: one, the idiot guide, so even the dumbest of squaddies, erks, or whatever the lowest RN rating is known as can’t get it wrong, and two, there’s more weight below the flag, to help it to fly properly.

What about Russia, Germany, Poland, Netherlands, Columbia to name a few, their flags can easily be hung upside down and what about mistaking the German flag for Belgium flag?

For those that know what they are looking for, determining if the flag is upside down or not is easy.

Has any one else noticed the two flags partially furled (I think that's the term) behind the podiums at the Downing street press conferences.

The blue portions appear to be a black colour.

Not sure if it might be our television, but also wondered if it might be the background lighting set up behind the podiums.

Any other thoughts?

Definitely darker, maybe a form of respect for the deceased.

Yes, that would be a nice thought (for those that didn't survive)

However, I have monitored it again today.

The lower, larger portions (of both flags) appear black, but on the upper slivers that can be seen, I think that there is a hint of blue.

They are also clearly in the entrance lobby behind the lecterns, so I now do suspect a lighting effect.

Regards

Mike
