I saw a gorgeous moon rise the other day from my window. It hasn't just sneaked above the horizon. People often talk about sunrises but a moonrise is up there with it, if not more so.

There’s going to be a Supermoon tonight. I might nip down to the beach later to get a view.

I've been playing with loads of different settings for moon shots recently and have found so far that these work best for me

Canon 7d Tamaron 70-300 SP VC or Canon 70-200mm F/4L
ISO 100-200 max, shutter 1/320-400 max, f5.6 or f6.3
Manfrotto 055pro tripod and a RC head. I turn VC (stabilisation) off with the Tamron.
I use the timer setting and mirror lock-up to exclude as much vibration as I can, 2 sec timer on the moon as it shifts!

That's sort of around where mine are. The aperture is best set where the lens is sharpest - so most are f5.6 - f8. Low iso for best quality image. The shutter is then set for correct exposure.

I think one of the most important things for a cracking moon shot is long focal length lenses maybe 400mm or longer. (and sharp)

I have a 70-200 with a 1.4 x teleconverter so longer would be better.

I have no mirror and use electronic shutter so vibration when on the tripod is kept low.

All good fun though

I took some moon photos 3 nights ago, “Moon over Mombasa” low on the horizon when it was showing orange and large at 600mm f6.7 ISO 250, plus other settings for variables, also no mirror etc,

I like Sean’s “Moon over Wales 2018” with its crater shadows, thank you Sean for posting it up

Thanks for the feedback guys, having had the 200L for a bit makes me realise I need a 400L in my life, I've just got to convince the wife

This morning was clear and bright. The sun rose as the moon set. The Moon here is just dipping over the horizon as the sun rises opposite lighting up the woodland. I was meant to be doing stuff but it was so pretty I had to get the camera.

Oh and that is a bird top left, my sensor is clean
