Astronaut Michael Collins - RIP
Michael Collins has passed away at 90 years of age. He remained alone in orbit whilst Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed on the surface of the moon. At times during his orbit he was totally out of touch with NASA and the whole of mankind, it's furthest representative at those times. He took a photograph at the time, from the command module with the lunar module descending to the surface, and the Earth beyond, he was therefore the only member of the human race at that time, not represented in that photograph.
I was up the night of the landing, on my own, watching those grainy black and white pictures, I managed to take a photograph of the screen that night, a piece of history. Michael Collins held the reins for the landing. |
