I’ve always thought honest Johns views to be thoroughly unbiased and informative
Unlike some people whose views are clearly the opposite I’m of the opinion ALL cars have their own particular faults and there’s no perfect car out there Just pay a visit to yr local scrap yard and see the countless rows of supposedly superior german brands When you look at the Japanese aisles you’ll notice the difference Regards Chris |

Pehaps the number of BMWs in the scrapyard is a reflection on the number on the road. These days, 7 out of 10 cars I see on the motorway seem to be German. Most of them will get to well over 100,000 miles, by which time depreciation and expensive dealer repairs makes them scrap-worthy to their owners, but probably a good buy to someone handy with spanners. I see more French cars in my local scrap yard - they just become an unreliable PITA. Jap stuff just keeps going until the rust gets it, or something does finally go wrong with it, and the owner panics! We carry on with our MGR products because they have character - like the British - great fun, but cussed and obstinate on a bad day!

I couldn't imagine my back, my wallet, or my sanity surviving the daily commute for long in either of the other 2. Guess I am a James May sort of bloke. Many years ago, my brother bought an Audi TT soft-top; he fancied driving down through France to his property there. After 18 months, he traded it for an A4 Avant TDi. It got him there just as quickly, more relaxed and fresher. And if he did get tired, he could recline the seats and go to sleep at an "Aire". The Rover feels special, polished, with the sun roof open, on a sunny Sunday drive around the Lakes. And when it's throwing it down over Shap, after a day at work, it feels safe, solid as a rock and comfortable.
