Observation with auto box
Ive noticed with the latest saloon auto:
If I’m in 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th: Accelerate, then ease off- the Rev counter goes up, as it should, and then drops quickly back to 0. If I’m in 5th, when I ease off, it only drops very slowly, until it changes down. Is this due to the lock up on the torque converter? Can’t say that I’ve noticed it on the tourer before, but then again, wouldn’t have been looking.🙄 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I've noticed this too, though mine drops back to about 750/800 rpm. When I select 2 or 3 for engine braking then the rpm increases to match road speed.

below 40 mph I think, the revs will drop as you describe, until the 'box thinks it needs to drop a cog, for engine braking/road speed etc. Although since I have been having a little 'fun' with the car of late, it doesnt drop in revs the way it used to. It has 'learned' my style, and adapted, believing it needs to maintain the revs, either that or it is telling me it wants the fluid change it is owed - not good for economy either lol. Shall be resetting the 'box soon though, as I keep waiting for it to lock up, and it doesnt until later than it used to.
