I wonder if you got a duff batch of pipe Gary, I've just measured the last lot I used........
I've found with the Flaremaster, you must file the end of the pipe completely flat, you cannot simply use a pipe cutter to part off the pipe, and ensure both halves of the die are completely aligned, and the gap on the jaw when the backnut tightened at 1mm. I've never experienced any issues with pipe slipping through the die, and always managed to produce good flares on kunifer and steel. Brian |

Thanks for verifying the measurements on the Saville pipe, Looks like I do indeed have a poor batch. two rolls infact I have asked the company what tolerance their pipe is supposed to be. will be interesting to hear their feedback. When I clamp the undersized pipe in the jaws, basically I have no gap, so hopefully with the new pipe there is more consistency. |

The replacement is again eBay but this time the pipe itself is makes with BS standard and it emanates from Europe so I am hoping for better consistency on the OD this time. Last edited by Lovel; 17th November 2019 at 22:44.. |

Here’s my measurements from the old rolls taken at different points. Should measure 4.76mm unsure of the tolerance though and of course I have already fitted the other roll to the car with bonnie straight runs and bends which is also undersize just haven’t done the ends yet.
Give him his due the supplier is investigating things. Aawaiting feedback. Also the newer BS marked pipe I received today with a healthy OD. |
