Default Noisy diesel ?

My 53 plate Rover 75 CDTi is getting noiser , sounds like tappets need adjusting...BADLY . Are these engines adjustable or are they hydraulic ? Had a basic oil and filter change about 1500 miles ago and appears to have slowly got worse ?

While I'm on about noise I've an engine speed rattle at around 2500 rpm, sounds very much like one of the pulley tensioners / guides I had replaced last year .Am I likley to be a victim of inbuilt 13 months lifespan as it seems on many automotive parts nowadays? Anyone had to redo in such a short time ?

If it is a cdti that you have then there are no tappets to adjust....

You say it appears to be getting worse since your last oil change, did you use the correct spec oil? If in doubt I would get a new filter and some decent oil and change it again.

The crank pulleys can last over 13 years.

If you replaced it with a cheap copy you've done quite well to get 13 months out of it, some don't last 13 weeks.

One guy didn't even get 13 minutes out of a new pulley

If it was a genuine Cortico pulley then maybe you have another fault that is loading the pulley up.

There ARE tappets. They adjust themselves, that's all.

To the OP. Make sure you have the correct grade of oil. 10/40 semi-synth.

Maybe it wasn't changed soon enough last time. With luck new oil may unbung the tappet feed holes.

Thanks all for input. Got it sorted today , cheap ( £75!) pulley from ebay breaking up already .Took a good eye to find it but it had gone soft and allowing the belts to move in an elipse instead of a circle making it load and unload the guide and tensioner .

All noise gone after fitting a Cortico replacement..lesson learned

This is why you should always be wary of buying stuff from eBay (and Amazon Marketplace and Play Trade); if it's not a rubbish make then there's a good chance that it's a fake anyway.
