Default Steering rack inner joints.

My car has just passed its MOT but with an advisory that there is some play in the inner joints. Are they expensive to buy and how difficult a job is it to replace them please?

AFAIK they weren't available at one point (dunno if that's changed), but another member has posted how the inner joints for a Ford Galaxy (?) are a perfect replacement.

Not a difficult a job if you have a removal tool.

I'm sure there's lots of info using the search facility, better than my memory anyway

Hi, have just had exactly the same advisory on my MOT, how did you get on about sourcing the inner joints and fitting them?
PS Haynes book claims no repair can be done !!!

Must be a common wear item with cars this age as my 02 tourer had advisory for slight play in steering rack which I am guessing is the same problem. I am interested in what parts are needed and how difficult a DIY job.

My 75 had an advisory on this 2 years ago . No mention of it last year or this year so it looks like they cure themselves

Just done mine bought complete inner and outer track rods from Eurocarparts for £98 both sides. Had to put in the details for year 2000 Ford Galaxy 1.9 diesel.

Oh and really easy job but i had the inner joint removal tool, willing to loan it out to anyone near me as they cost about £60
