![]() Hello all!
My diesel tourer has just popped up the ABS light, and the speedo has packed in. From all I've read here, front right sensor is duff. Fairy Nuff, new sensor fitted to the front right. UK drivers side. Still got the lights, still no speedo. The question is, does the Left Hand Drive use the same right front sensor, or should I have changed the left front? Can't communicate with the ABS ECU (that's another issue) with Smartbox X431, I'll get to that...eventually...CAN bus failure. Cheers, Iain |

Either the sensor is no good or not close enough some after market sensors need a little shaved off them, if after checking and that you still get the same then it is most likely the bearing it's self that would need changing. Is your car a left hand drive ? because of the question above.

I'd say that it would be a good idea to sort this out first. The ABS sensors are wired directly to the ABS ECU which then feeds the instrument pack. It therefore wouldn't make any sense for LHD cars to have reversed front wheel sensors. Simon

![]() Hello,
I've just been through this problem. The consensus seems to be to check the multiplug below the battery for moisture and/or corrosion as the first step. This article ttps://the75andztclub.co.uk/forum/s...d.php?t=133814 is very helpful. Good luck sorting it, Derek. |

![]() Aye, Arctic, it's a lefty, I'm in Bergen, Norway...
Thing is, I plugged the sensor in before I fitted it, light didn't go off, should it have? It was a tight fit (DMGR sensor), had to shave it a bit and tap it in (gently). SD1too, I'll get on it as soon as I can, but given that all I know is 'CAN bus other ECU's' from Smartbox, where to start? I'll peruse the wiring diagrams... Derek, linkee no workee? I'll have a peek at the (I didn't know it existed) multiplug below the battery... The car just passed its PKK, that's MoT to you, before this, so I've got 2 years...would like a speedo, though! :-) I'm assuming that I shouldn't need to 'wipe' the fault code, am I wrong? 'Cos I can't... Cheers, Iain |

The sensor needs to be fitted into the hub to provide a signal. Quote:
RAVE explains that the IPK transmits the road speed on the CAN and K-buses. Given that the IPK is not displaying this information on the speedometer, the CAN bus shouldn't enter into it. Simon

![]() Simon, only T4 I know of this side of the North Sea is on the east coast of Sweden. I'm on the west coast of Norway....2000km round trip, er, maybe not! :-) I'll ask around my old Land Rover mates, they may know someone. WouldTestbook work, or is that only on the K series, not the BMW engine, or not at all?
I'm more of a Series 1 Land Rover mechanic than a data engineer... " Given that the IPK is not displaying this information on the speedometer, the CAN bus shouldn't enter into it." I'll need to look into that, but it does sound like the sensor, new or not, is dodgy, dirty, wheel bearing, whatever. This from the link from Derek: Start-up Self Test (1)Start-up test: at ignition switch on the ECU in the ABS Modulator performs a basic self test during which the yellow ABS illuminates. During the start-up test each sensor is tested electrically and the ABS modulator is tested both electrically and hydraulically. If the ABS light remains on it most likely points to an electrical fault or less likely an ABS modulator or hydraulic fault. So, if the sensor was OK, the light should have gone out, even though it wasn't fitted, just plugged in, no? I've got red ABS, yellow brake, and yellow traction control lights. And no bl@@dy speedo! All input much appreciated, Iain |

![]() Hi Iain.
Have you driven the car since replacing the ABS sensor ? if not try driving it to see if the light goes out and the speedo come back.
