Default ?

I have a 75 Connoiseur Tourer Diesel Automatic bought 2001 by me .The very fast wiper will not work the motor is OK as other speeds work.A new relay was fitted but I am told that "underneath" there is something that tells the relay to work.I am told that I would have to find one of these units(?) and would then have to have it programmed ! There nothing in the Haynes Workshop manual- has anyone any suggestions.

Hello Kenneth,

The unit you describe is the body control unit (BCU) but I doubt that's the cause.

You mention fitting a new relay. There are two. One switches between run and park, the other between slow and fast speeds. But relays are very reliable.

I would look at the column stalk which, for fast speed, earths the light green/blue wire. You could test the switch with a multimeter. That would be the best place to start.

Simon

I currently have this same fault on my car. The slow/fast relay isn't switching due to it not receiving a signal to do so. The wiper stalk on my car is fine and the BCU is recieving the input from it, so either the BCU is faulty or the wiring between the BCU and the relay has a fault. When I get a spare moment I'll check the wiring for continuity, and I suggest the OP gets someone to do the same on his car
