Default Oil

Simple question.

I have regulary changed my oil and filter every 6 to 8 thousand miles instead of the recommended 15 thousand miles.

Is there any point in using a different viscosity oil now it has done 260K miles.

IE a thicker or thinner oil

Answers on a postcard please.

I would suggest that the oil you have been using has got you to 260 thousand miles why change it now, better the devil you know and all that

I've stuck with 10/40 semi synthetic from new until now and at 441k the engine still seems fine. It gets changed as per the Rover service schedule.
