Default CDTi loosing power

Hello all, I bought my ZT a few months ago and was told it has a 'maffless' remap done by a well known person in the MG Rover community, I noticed it produced a stupid amount of smoke and it sounded awful pulling away from low revs (pinking) and not very smooth. Anyway I reconnected the MAF sensor as I was told that it puts the ecu back to normal, is this correct?

Anyway I noticed straight away that the car felt smoother driving and produced less smoke. But then I noticed I kept loosing all power, the engine would rev to the redline but it was almost like I had no boost, very intermittent. So I replaced the MAF sensor in the weekend. It is now a million times better, but occasionally it will go flat and loose power, not as often as before.

Tonight I have disconnected the MAP sensor on the manifold as an experiment and its so much better to drive, slightly less smoke and it doesn't loose power at all. Are these common on ZT/75s to fail? Also could the remap be to blame too and will it need to be removed properly or remapped properly to stop the smoke altogether as its still a bit smokey? I have already fitted the BMW PCV breather, I work at BMW so know about the modified breather on M47/57 diesels.

Lose the mafless remap, they are known to fail emissions at mot time, im pretty sure this will be the cause of your issue.

Tom Force do your remap by any chance?

If this is the case, then reconnecting the MAF will do nothing

Cheers guys just what I thought, as someone who has had remaps before it is a very poor remap I think. I was thinking of using Celtic tuning to put a proper map on it as they have remapped my Freelander 2 and my old Civic and did a great job. Chaz did the remap I was told.

Hi Steven.
If you are going to have a remap then go to one of the T4 gurus; on here, Brian, Russ, Trikey, remember you can have it done by post as well, get the manifold cleaned out, and the EGR cleaned or a gutted one fitted also next year you are welcome to out Nano meets link below.
