Thomas Cook Refund Scam Warning
I have read about these fake Thomas Cook refund emails. I am sure some on here have come across them already, I may have too, but I do have 20k unread emails on this email account! If you get a suspicious email, or an email you are not sure about, first check the email sender (circled in blue). Notice in this one it has nothing to do with Thomas Cook, or anyone connected with the administration (teletektelekom? or something like that ). There is often a link to click - obviously do NOT click on it! If the email is in your junk email inbox any links should be disabled (in most email handlers). Hover over this link with your mouse cursor (remember do NOT click!), and in the lower left corner, circled in red, will display where the link will take you (some browsers may display this in different area). It states 'thomascook.caa.co.uk.htbloses........etc' ultimately disappearing . At first glance it may look OK, but after the uk, there is a dot, which is taking it to another TLD (.com, .co.uk, .ie etc). If it was genuine, it would have a / after the uk. Also hovering over some links used to cause issues (not sure if it still does) but whilst it is in the junk mail box, it should be safe. Be wary. I am going to have an early night, just in case Elizabeth is making breakfast in the morning

Hi,
Can I just add an additional warning. checking the 'from' address on an email is no guarantee that the address shown is where it actually came from. The 'From' field can carry any address and is trivial to put a fake from address in. OK, here's the tricky one. All links in emails (and anywhere else for that matter) can be made to look genuine. Unfortunately when the allowable characters for URLs were increased to include all sorts of strange (to us) characters from alphabets around the world it made it possible to craft a URL (link address) to look like the real thing - yet still take you to a fake site. The only way to be 99.9% sure of the site you are visiting from a link is to type it in yourself.
