Default Nothing is forever

My first ZT (2004 CDTi) which i purchased in July 2008 went to the scrapman a couple of days ago. Great car which had 53,000 miles on the clock when i bought it and ended up with 262,000 miles when it last ran iin 2016: avearge 26,000 miles per year - pretty good. Reason for scrapping being need to do clutch slave cylinder (again) which i d id not fancy (again).

So i bought a same colour, one owner 2005 CDTi with 72,000 miles in late 2016 which passed its MOT last week @ 147,000 miles. Another great car.

Two other cars i have owned that were as good and both did high mileages in my ownership were a 1992 Vauxhall Cavalier SRi which i ran from new to 1999 when it was written off by a lorry carrying a crane long mast section and a Rover 800 Vitesse Coupe from 1999 to 2008.

Ironically, a poor car my wife owned was a 2004 75 Contemporary 1.8Ti purchased "new" in 2006 (Rover fire sale) which broke down in mid France in Summer 2007 (omen for the future) and the usual issues (more than once with HGF). We gave it away in late 2019 though it came off the road with her in 2017. Wife now drives a 2016 Mini Cooper which she loves.

Current CDTi will probably go when I retire as my annual mileage will be much less and it would be nice to have something a bit more modern - fancy a 2017 / 18 Vauxhall Insignia with 2.0l engine in manual - not bothered if petrol or diesel. Any suggestions as to best model and / or issues?

Intend to keep the 260 / 190 - both same Trophy Blue colour.

Hi 2750 HP, I had a black diesel insignia elite eco tech manual (6 Speed) 2010 and had it chipped to 211bhp and it was great. At the time I was only doing low mileage so probably not the best for telling how reliable they are but the only issue I ever had was the DPF not being triggered (3000) revs I believe due to the chipping. The fix was easy I just had to get 3000 revs in during the year to ensure it triggered the self clean although the garage can also trigger through the computer. It was a great car with really high mpg figures and the only reason to sell was to purchase a car for my wife who had just passed her test and to buy my V8.

Default insignia

2750hp have you read much about the insignia problems with the oil pickup strainer in the sump ? has been a big issue wrecking many engines according to the majority of insignia owners. i dont know if this problem effects the newer models but i would certainly do some investigating. the petrols were ok but the diesels oil seal on the pickup went hard and dried up only sucking in air. engine starved of oil and bang. the only warning was a brief flashing of the engine oil light low pressue warning just before but by then it was too late. vauxhall refused to do a recall as the problem usually occurred outside warranty. easy fix you might add ... but no. the problem is to remove the sump the gearbox has to be removed to access the bolts !! so unless you are competent / fit / and able it will cost a stack . just pointing something out that may be of interest to you if considering....
