Butchered the back of my drivers seat a bit.
The seat was very squeaky, I managed to get the seat back partly away enough to squirt some lubricant on the metalwork, but did break a clip. I tried to follow the advice of threads on here but I think the seat backs are really tight and after 23 years of temperature changes the plastic was just too brittle. I also noticed that the mountings at the top of the map pocket were broken, another common fault. These have been glued back with Tiger Seal, so now we have no squeaking and a map pocket that will do for a small map (but not much else!). |

Took the engine cover off and found the replacement egr valve is kaput, there is also some weeping from a failed seal on the manifold, so new seals will be ordered.
In the meantime I fitted the old egr valve. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Key Fobs
Bit the bullet today and changed both key fob casings as they had lost their push buttons.
Thanks primarily to the advice found on here, the first one took 45 minutes and the second about 15 minutes. Swapping the old blades over wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. I changed the batteries as well, the price of which came as a bit of a shock!! I did cheat a little, I didn't take the transponder out, I left it in the old back and just clipped that onto the new front. So, once again, many thanks for all the accoumulated wisdom found on this site. |

Hi Dave. Why was the egr up the Shute? Had it seized up with the gunk in it, or had the vacuum part broken?

Hi Dave, I thought my egr was kaput so I bought one from a member on here, as you can see its also knackered, the vac hose on mine was also kaput, so that was replaced and the original egr fitted.
The engine is drawing an excess of air as there is a flat spot, the tell tale signs of a black oily deposit around the seals on the inlet manifold I hope is the giveaway. |

I have sent you a PM regarding the EGR, is it leaking from the little hole in the EGR or around the seal to the manifold. As the manifold been cleaned out also and the MAP sensor, is the concertina on the exhaust leaking too from the photo it showing some black? Is the PCV filter in good order, ie when was it last changed.

I took my ZT-T190 out for the first time in two months to our MG Group lunch. It started right away and ran perfectly. (Knock on Wood!)
To top it off, Lunch was great!

You May be correct Dave. Arctic changed both John’s and my intake manifold a couple of years ago. I have had mine off since, it’s easy enough, to fit the inline stat, and noticed how the gaskets seemed thin, squashed down. Mine is not leaking, but I am going to get some new ones and fit them later when it warms up.It does look as though you have a problem there and at the thick joint between the egr and inlet manifold with the oil showing there.

Decided today to start the 2.5 Connie. Checked battery as usual first, it’s not been started foe around three weeks, and battery was 12.3 volts. Started on the button straight away. I keep the engine covered with an old coat and I think that helps. Battery was at 12.7 after running it for about 40 minutes.

Today, i tackled the last but one job , i made a new bracket for the headliight sensor but wasn't happy with it it had too much flex in it, So i got some steel strip from B&Q, and make a new bracket, i was expecting to have to fettle it a bit, but made it with a return at the bottom, so it clamps the return face and a cut out on the top to sit in the recess, and you know what, it fitted exactly the bottom sits right in the concave section and i has to spring the top over the two lugs, and it sat exactly right, and the tab that the arm bolts into holds it firm this asn't moving anywhere, i'm actually very proud of it, it looks like its a factory piece, and whilst doing it, i never had a single dizzy spell,
