The true designation of all these units is a MEWP, from Mobile Elevating Work Platform. The really frightening ones go up to some incredible heights, and they don't look safe!
On the same note as Dereks my father sadly passed away on the 21st, he would have been 78 on the 28th. He served in Korea, and it was only when I looked at his service record I realised he was only 17 when he went there and was wounded at the battle of the Imjin River. He was immensly proud of the fact that he was a gunner (Royal Artillery) and knew all about the cherry pickers, and the other regiments of the british army. |

Oh, and by the way the Hussars had a cherry red stripe down the side of their trousers after the incident as mark of shame, they still wear those trousers today.

Invented in BC in 1951 to increase efficiency in orchard harvests, it was nick-named the 'giraffe' by its inventor (so your memory also serves you well WillyHeckaslike). Eventually they became known as 'cherry pickers'. Well, how sad am I for having spent time on that!! |
