I had a HUGE amount of help yesterday at the Nano meet, and got my fan up-rated to the gold resistor, plenum spyhole mod, swapped my bonnet cables over to stop them popping out, cable tied possible wires that chafe, T4 to identify loss of speedo, fix to my IPK after someone bodged the ABS LED...and the list goes on! Today, I felt a little inadequate at home, as I just managed to fit my new front number plate in its chrome surround. The plate was too wide for the surround and I had to chisel away a lot of plastic off the backplate of said surround to get it to work, but I got there in the end!

Brakes!
I planned to adjust the handbrake shoes and fit a Mini front handbrake cable and compensator in place of my stretched original. Couldn't see the adjuster through the disc bolt holes so took the rear discs off only to find that all of the shoes had lost their pins and springs!! Now I need to fit new backplates if I can release the Torx bolts holding the current ones on. I decided to take the front seats and console out to do the compensator instead of faffing around with the console in the way and think I was faster than I would have been even though there was a lot more to remove. Also replaced the rear shock with E46 units drilled out. This was nice and easy having got my local garage to free up the bottom bolts that were refusing to move when I first tried. Tomorrow will involve lots of replacing of trim and refitting of the seats, then we'll see what happens with these backplates!

Thanks Pete, it is a daily driver, and the first car that I have really wanted to keep. So with a bit of luck and effort I will be able to.

Aside from lots of gardening, and also removing the gate/posts on the driveway to give extra clearance for the car the couple things I did on the car today...
Removed the sunroof and 'fixed' the sliding cover or whatever it's called. The front left guide was snapped so removed it and replaced it with the rear one. Seems to work well with the rear one missing. After refitting it took me a while (and the air whistling while driving) to realise the rear was sitting about 3cm low! So had to refit it and adjust several times to set it right. Cruise control wasn't working after I fit it a while back so after some research I sorted that little white switch, I've not tested it yet however. |

You could have, for 34 quid more than you paid for a manual...
