Just renewed ins on the silver manual diesel saloon.
Renewal letter from endsleigh came in at £240, up £4 from last year.
Compare sites came in at £190, rising to £220 ish when I input a windscreen claim.
Rang to cancel with endsleigh, but gave them a chance to requote over the phone.
They came in at £188, so happy with that.
Incidentally, if I wanted to protect my 3 yr NCB on that policy (I have 4 &#128580, premium went up to over £400, 😰, with the operator unable to explain the rise.
Needless to say I didn’t go with the NCB protection.

Silly really as surely the big money payouts are for damages, not replacing stolen old MGR's

I believe the premiums are based on how likely the driver of a certain type of car, living in a certain area, is to be responsible for a claim (own and third party damage) and the size of the claim(s).

No - very comprehensive, comprehensive policies.

For my standard Rover 25 1.4 I went with Hastings Direct in December just gone and .... BIG MISTAKE! A mistake which I will never repeat with this outfit which lured me in with a quote of ~ £174 in round figures for a no frills fully comp policy. I was happily insured with the AA (renewal quote ~ £254) for the previous year and I applied to Hastings Direct a couple of weeks or so early before my AA policy expired and Hastings Direct then sat on it and it waited and waited.

It waited until I was fully hooked and my policy with the AA expired and then it started its antics. I could kick myself because having since googled about the antics of Hastings Direct it would appear to have a bit of a reputation for trying to shake customers down for more cash after sucking them in with a competitive quote. That is exactly what it has subjected me to for a number of weeks now stretching right over the festive holiday period. It did so by threatening and bullying me in to trying to get me to contradict my application so that it could hit me with a policy alteration charge or a policy termination charge or maybe both if I did not submit to its demands. I have not submitted to its demands and I never will. Lol.

If you have evidence of their dirty tricks, you could try complaining to the insurance/financial ombudsman. Life is too short to have to get competitive quotes for all your different insurances, phones, utilities etc. every year, then check they have actually quoted you for what you asked. Too often, when I check the cover listed on a quote, I find some detail is incorrect, meaning if I accepted, in some cases, I would be paying for invalid cover, or not the cover required. And trying to stall until you have run out of time and options is just sly and dishonest. Thanks for the warning about Hastings.

If you Google 'Hastings insurance' you will find lots of unhappy customers venting their frustration on-line.
