Austin Garage Visit
Took the Black Pearl to see Nick at Austin Garage today, try to get his advice about my concern off blue smoke on starting the engine after standing for a couple of days, put the car on a T4, and I was greatly surprised to be told the engine is running Text Book perfect, but could offer no suggestions as what could be causing the smoke issue, taking it for a good run without the MAF connected, have done most other checks, PCV, EGR, ect!, is there any thing else I should be looking at. Valve guides? Dunno if the KV6 suffers from worn valve guides, the 2.5 V6 used in the Mazda Xedos and Ford Probe apparently used to get smokey on start-up after 100,000 miles due to oil leaking down the guides past the open valves overnight. Lord Rover might know about this.

Rev buy some Forte diesel injector cleaner and fill the diesel filter with it and run car for 10 seconds and turn car off. Leave overnight to soak the injectors.
Might be worth changing glow plugs too if it fails. If you are using cheap supermarket diesel that doesn’t help believe me! |

Hi Jules. You seem to have had everything covered one way or another. Two things:- has the manifold ever been cleaned out? also have you checked the pipe from the turbo for oil? Is there any oil in the air cooler?

He probably means the intercooler which sits behind the bumper and in front of the condenser and radiator. It can get a bit oily inside after a while and sometimes can do with a good clear out.

Sorry Julian. I should have said the intercooler that is in front of the radiator. Sometimes you get quite a bit of oil collect in this, and I have read that this can cause some smoking to occur on fast acceleration because of the amount of air that goes through the intercooler on high revs. I must be honest, I don’t think you drive outlandishly anyway, but it could be a reason you get the smoke. I do remember when you left the Four Ashes Meet, there was an amount of smoke being expelled. Try taking the pipe that goes to the egr off, and see if there is a lot of oil on the inside of it. I don’t know if you have thought of having the oil supply pipe to the turbo off? and seeing if their is any blockage in the supply. If there is, it can lead to a worn bearing, and in turn lead to leakage of oil past the bearing into the intercooler. That I would think would be a worst case scenario. Hope this helps.
