When my wife was looking to buy a new car four years ago we visited about 4 dealerships and lost the will to live. We ended up buying a car on spec & price rather than looks and styling as we were so underwhelmed. One year ago we replaced that car and nothing had changed.

Mind you I took my sister to visit her friend that day, then came back and replaced the cambelt on her Mk3 Cavalier

From that famous car movie, - The Good, the Bad and the Ugly! - Mercedes long ago discovered how to produce a car with 'Future Classic' status. Make it desirable, but ensure it rots where it doesn't show - ie the scuttle. My bro bought a beautiful looking '87 SL in France. Failed its first test for him with scuttle rot. And finding a replacement 230SLK for my wife without NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD- wings proved near impossible, unless it had only been driven occasionally, and only on dry days. Easier to find a good R171 350SLK in good nick for the same money. Thankfully, they have now learned that galvanising is cheaper than having to honour rust perforation warranties.
