Question MG ZT 1.8t Hydraulic Clutch Slave Quick Release problem.

Going to fit a new clutch release bearing assembly to my project ZT-T. The "Quick-release" connector stubbornly refused to release at any speed no matter what I tried. So, what am I doing wrong?

The slit is there from manufacture.

As Mike has said, make sure you push the plastic sleeve towards the body (or towards front of car) as evenly as possible.

I find you also have to give the two parts a little wiggle to release sometimes.

I believe the expression is counter intuitive.
Push-me pull-you or the three-hand trick well known to plumbers.

This is the sort of tool plumbers use to release those push-in connectors they fit to shower pumps.

John

The bolts that hold the input shaft sleeve in place are actually E10. If you do remove/replace this, you should replace the slim rubber seal that sits in a groove behind it - available from Rimmers for about a pound !

That's a good tip about using a 17mm spanner to undo the quick release coupling

I'd like to post this just in case there are a few who haven't seen it.

Quite descriptive.

Based on my limited knowledge/experience of 75 clutches, there is no need to remove/replace the input sleeve unless there is evidence of an oil leak from the gearbox, or you suspect the sleeve has been damaged (which can affect smooth operation of the clutch).

Well John, it's time to share my experience .

(Like you,my pedal went to floor)

You're right ,10.000 km ,it's not much BUT IT WAS NOT THE CAUSE

Stupidly ,i have replaced the slave for a worse one

The deteriorated rim is the rear one ,so not preventing to get the pressure

BUT the rubber débris go everywhere in the circuit ....particularly onto the
little valve situated at the end of the piston'master.

While you're at it ,give it a good clean and replace the fluid...that's all

Mike
