all the prototypes from that era passed to saic .according to the comments this one didn't and went sent to gaydon by geoff upex and then was destroyed around the time mr woolley went to ford in the usa in 2006 (or just before)!!

Why would some one do that, it should be kept for people to see what good cars rover where abale to design....

Many thanks payner75t for the information to ARonline. Found the article most interesting and more so that the R55 was a replacement for the 45 range. It seems very much larger in the photo than a 45. Possibly a newly developed platform could have been used as the base for the 2 models being planned at that time ie a replacement for the 45 and an updated 75. What a missed opportunity it seems to have been.
Mr Woolley certainly had a flair for managing to capture what a true Rover should look like, and at the same time, be right up there with modern day looks. What a shame it never saw the light of day as a full scale production model..
