I was told some time ago about the latest must-have product exclusively for ‘automatic’ drivers, guaranteed to improve mpg when used with larger road wheels.
The wheels have an increased rolling radius needing fewer revolutions, ergo less distance, for any journey. The new product, soon to be available at H. Frauds, is a pair of driving shoes. The left shoe is a sturdy brogue (Grenson/Church/Barker and coloured brown, sorry - light tan - preferably) for the mature driver and the right one is a zip up slipper.

I reckon that if when going ‘up’ country, you zig zag from one side of the country to the other, you would achieve better mpg because you would not be going ‘straight up’ therefore there would be less of an incline. Less hills, more mpg. I will try that tomorrow. .

I would not recommend the helium factory for those who take exception to the way they are spoken to.

I think I'd be inclined to lock my garage.

That is normal, the gauge is not a genuine indication of fuel in the tank, but an interpreted version. If your mpg is good as you park the car, the gauge will rise. If you restart the car from cold next morning, the gauge will fall because your mpg is poor - cold engine, car not moving very efficiently - poor mpg. Fuel warning light might not be lit as you park, next morning it can come on, then as the car warms up does better mpg it goes off again. The car is looking after you, making sure you don't run out of fuel
