Shared Body (and other) Parts
Whilst waiting for the Police to help me at work in the early hours at the weekend ( ), I found I was standing alongside a BMW X5 As I was waiting, I noticed the roof bars on the X5 looked familiar - they look to be the same as the bars I fitted to my ZT-T!
This got me thinking about parts of our cars that have been used on other vehicles. I had already noticed the power steering reservoir is exactly the same as the unit on my previous Discovery and the little 'Diesel' sticker on the inside of the fuel flap is the same as used on the Discovery too. We all know about the M47R engine being similar to that used in the 3 series Beemer, but what about other bits'n'bobs? Might be useful to know in case the 75/ZT equivalent is more expensive! Oh, and please no numpties posting with the devastating news that some part of their 75 is also used on the ZT and vice versa! We know! Steve |

The loadspace cover used in the tourer versions is taken from a BMW...

Hi guys and girls,
Some interesting finds already. Keep 'em coming. Phil, I don't live near Minchinhampton Common - I had to look it up on Multimap! I'm one mile from Hampton Court Palace but have friends in Malmesbury, not too far from you, I guess? I passed a BMW 5 series tourer this morning and noticed the same roof rails, so now need to check a 3 series and an X3 (double puke) for a full set. Wouldn't be suprised if they have the very same roof bars......but I'm a bit confused by the C series Merc estate I saw this morning....it also seemed to have the same roof bars. When the chap was fitting my tow bar I noticed the wiring for the reversing sensors had a Land Rover part number. The plot thickens........ Steve |

I have heard that the brake calipers for the 75 are the same as the Beemer 3 series. Any one confirm? Also, Rovers (and Japanese cars) have always had the fuel filler on the near side, but the 75 has the tank filler on the off side in common with most European designed cars. Does this mean the tank is the same as the BMW with the saddle bag design to clear the prop shaft of the RWD car?
Referring to the earlier post re power steering reservoir, this is a standard ZF reservoir, and they supply their power steering systems to many car companies. |

would it be possible to have some sort of list made up (as in how to remember a part number) to help us to source bits and bobs.
