Okay.... new big problem... coolant trouble seems fixed but:

Yesterday picked her up. Started on the button and sounded and drove perfect. My mechanic had driven about 110 kms with it since the big operation and she went like clockwork.
I then Drove for 33 km. Popped in a shop for 5 mins. Got back to car and it started perfect and drove perfect when leaving and then went home. Another 33km. So i drove 66kms. In total since HG repair: 175+/-kms

Got home, parked it and left it. Felt really happy for a few hours...

Few hours later we needed the car again. Now it WOULDNT start. It turned over but wouldnt start.
Called AA and they diagnosed faulty camshaft sensor. (No spark, good fuel pressure).

The guy couldnt get here started. I asked him to erase al the faults that showed up on the diagnose computer and then it started!!! It ran rough, lacked power and the shifts from the automaric gear box werent smooth anymore. Drove for a block and back home. switched her of. Wouldnt start again.

Left her for the night and asked my mechanic to come this morning. When we tried to start her a truely horrifiing noise came from the engine! Loud ticking and cracking noise. Engine didnt turn over anymore. It just shakes and ticks loud when you turn the key... i almost cried... any ideas??? Did it die? Could camshaft have broken?? I am really starting to hate it. I spend so much money and effort and it keeps letting me down.

Please help! What should i do???

Is your mechanic experienced on the KV6 engine, particularly on the timing belts?

Yes. Ex mg rover dealer head mechanic. Done dozens of kv6s. Timingbelts, headgaskets etc. Knows them by heart. But now he was left scratching his head... "it ran perfect, you parked it. It turned over and wouldnt start and now it sounds like it is totally seezed and the starter cant get it to turn over."

Fyi he did the came belts in octobre last year. Al 3 and engine ran perfect. Just drank coolant like mad

Get your ex-MG Rover dealer mechanic to fix it of course.

Yes but at what price? I have already 4500 euro in repairs now. Few unnecessary (inletmanifold gaskets, oilcooler) because i didnt listen to my mechanic when he said HGF was the cause of my coolant issue... now i fear that the engine is shot. It really sounded like hell this morning. It is starting to get to the point were it just isnt worth the money anymore. Bought it for 2400 euros so now the car ownes me about 7k allready AND it is a none-runner still. This looks like the heaviest paper weight ever. And the most expensive one.

The thing is: my vitesse also ate a lot of cash but that always seemed to try and help me. It stil got me safely home and limping back heavily wounded with broken crankshaft barings and broken cilinders and pieces of metal 1 inch in diameter going trough they engine. That engine ran and when we gave her a new one and i opened the broken one up we were amazed it had worked so wel with a that was broken in there.

That car is like an old loyal dog. The 75 is a spoiled child. I give it everything more and it keeps throwing faults and problems in my face everytime. It has problems never seen on a 75, or not a lot. People drive them for 300.000 or efen 400.000km without fuss and tis one is almost dead with 160.000...

Get your mechanic in there again.
He has made a mistake, most likely with the belt.

And fix the Vitesse, that is a very nice car.

The vitesse has been fixed last year. Got a new sweet engine. Drives like a dream now. When we opened the original engine up we got the shock of a life time. You wouldnt believe if you saw it that it would still start on the button and run for miles and miles (albeit with much of the v8 grunt gone).

But now better then ever!
Can you believe it? The most reliable car that i own now is a 1985 austin rover with lucas fuel injection

Can it be that with a mistake with the belt that a car drives perfect for 100-200km and then suddenly generate a problem??

I would get hold of the mechanic straight away and ask him what is going on.
I would stand by and watch as the engine is taken apart again, if that turns out to be necessary.

I would take a Vitesse over a 75 any day.

I did. He came the nextmorning after AA said camshaft sensor had gone.
He brought his diagnose device hoping to get her running so he could take her and replace the sensor. When he turned the key we heard the noise. He was amazed like me. Didnt know what had happend and how it could be. We are opening her up again thursday.

A vitesse over a 75? Yes! A vitesse as a daily driver (except for work. Got a citygo for that) over a 75? Hell no! Rear wheeldrive, live rear axle, no abs, 1970ties braking, lorry clutch and gearshift and ofcourse not being able to use it in the winter and rain makes it that i need the 75. Also my girlfriend just got her licensce. No way she is taking the vitesse. She wanted a safe sort of modernish automatic car.
