Tensioner pulley

Hi. A garage has put a new tensioner on rover 75 diesel but keeps loosing the belt. I can move the tensioner very easy with a 24mm spanner and it doesn't return or have any pressure. Is it the back awkward part that should be replaced again or the arm. They had 2nuts holding arm into tensioner which I thought was unusual. Thanks for any replys. I have looked around the forum but unsure what I'm looking for 🤣

When mine started losing the belt it was the crank pulley that was the issue.

I have a crank pulley to replace also. I'm just unsure if the tensioner has a return position as I can literally move it around anywhere with little resistance and it doesn't return.

Welcome to the club /mad house.

Have a good read of this thread, and don't take it back to the same garage if you cannot do the job yourself.

Thanks for the welcome 👍. I'm usually pretty savvy when repairing cars but this 75 is a head scratcher too me lol. I can freely move tensioner as there is very little resistance. Im assuming at the back of the block the spring load is broken. I'm gonna give the threat a good read when time permits. Cheers

Sounds very much like a faulty tensioner .
