Default Ice alert - gritters about

Driving home tonight about 8pm, Flippin gritter coming the other way, got a right car full. So annoying, but I suppose necessary. Didn't think it was cold enough yet - I live in deepest Hertfordshire, not known for it's extremes of climate.

Do I get the prize for the first gritter sighting this winter?

Well, although I didn't see any gritting trucks, the roads on the way home from work around half six / severn were already gritted. I'm in Staffordshire and where we are we do get cold nights (lots of country side surrounding this town) - but I still didn't think it was as cold tonight as the last few nights where there wasn't any grit put down...
