Default 500GB Blu-ray

Crikey, 500GB on one Blu-ray disc http://www.pioneer.eu/eur/content/pr...GB_Bluray.html

That's 100 DVDs on one disc (death knell for DVD).

Capacity is Growing everywhere.
1.5 Terabyte (TB) Hard drives becoming the norm, and the new 2TB (64mb cache) Western Digital drives we are now using also.

Time to update the 9 1Tb drives I have in my main server.

There goes any chance of a V8

In Japan they're already working on Ultra High Definiton television (16x the resolution of normal Hi Def) - so I suppose 500GB Blu-ray discs will eventually be small beer.

Plus - Ultra High Def will almost certainly mean the end of 35mm film.

I think it will be some time before UHD is a commercial product and it will only be used for large displays in things like conferences and football games, motor racing etc..

The amount of bandwidth required is prohibitive and cannot be transmitted with current technologies.
