Default Reinstalling XP

At work as home pc is now kaput!. Kept getting blue screen and wouldn't boot up, so decided to re-install XP. Was already loaded so sticker on the PC with number, GREAT!...... or so I thought.
My nephew gave me an XP disc but it will only install using the number on his duff copy!, how do I get round this with the actual serial number of the genuine copy I had pre-installed?.
Half my applications need at least SP1 to run..... help!

It generally has to be a Genuine Microsoft Disc not a Copy or a Manufacturers one (unless one supplied by maker of Computer).

When you connect to "Activate" your edition(30 day Limit) it will let you change your number there.
If the Motherboard has been changed it will not allow you to activate as that requires a new Copy.
SP1/2 and SP3 can be downloaded afterwards from Update Site.

If you have a problem accessing a Genuine Disc PM me as I have a Collection (without Licence Numbers) at work.

If you bought your PC from one of the big companies, Dell, Fujutsi Siemens and the like, you should have been given recovery CDs. One with the OS and one with the chipset & drivers. Or is it a PC you or someone has built?

You won't get a bootleg copy of XP to work with the Ser No on the case of your PC.

or
A Genuine New Microsoft XP Pro SP2 Pack is also available.
