Replacement IPKs
both my CD Ti and my 260 had new IPK screens a few years back..
Now both will go very dim, to the point of being unreadable when the weather and the Dashboard gets ho. The Diesel was done first and this showed this symptom first , now the 260 does the same. Perfect display when normal temps or first started up . no lines just dim. Anyone had similar ? C

Yes I've had the same problem. Rick fitted me a new screen to my Connie but on the way home , whilst using the screen for around 1/2 hour , I noticed it was starting to fade and become unreadable as it got warm. Switching it off for 1/2 hour restored the screen to normal.
I contacted Rick who was puzzled as to the cause but said he would try to find a solution. It took a little while but he later contacted me and asked me to return the screen so I drove back down to see him. I waited about 40 mins and he sorted it and it's been perfect ever since. |

I had exactly the same issue, definitely heat related.
I took it back to Rick and he applied the ‘fix’. I haven’t used it much since, but I’m hoping it’s been successful. |

Gents, could you tell us what year you got the IPK's in case the issue is related to a batch or is it random?

I had the same problem.
Mine was replaced early 2022, I posted jan 2022 about getting the cluster out. Rick knew what the problem was and offered to sort it FOC if I took the car over to him, which I did. Sorted in about 20 mins (Thanks Rick ) he mentioned something about a resistor need to be replaced on some clusters. This is a guess: but I think that the revised design of the display is more sensitive to other components values and that a component or 2 are more susceptible to higher temperatures and 'drift' when hot, causing the problem.

My screen was bad for some time, I bought one of the last ones to DIY before he vanished, it came with a resistor I had to replace, and I had to remove a diode (i think), so the fix works. No problem with the screen at all.
I REALLY enjoyed removing the old ribbon that was clearly broken in places, cleaning up the pads, and soldering on the new ribbon. A steady hand and there is NO room for error, so it takes your best soldering skills. I cut off the ribbon close to the PCB with scissors so I could see the pads better, and to prevent the screen from pulling on the ribbon as I removed it from the PCB pads. Being as fine and intricate as any solder job I have done, I used my personal favourites for such jobs "SRA Rosin Flux No.135" , and "Kester 44" solder. Replacing the SMDR and removing the SMDD is easy peasy in comparison. Somewhere on the PC I have high res photos of the PCB showing the SMD resistor and the SMD diode, do not know the resistor value though, I thought about measuring it but forgot.
