I learned something about Rover last night that BR's APT-E train was equipped with four Rover-built Leyland gas turbine engines.

It was ten actually. Initially each power car had four for traction and another auxiliary one but later all five provided traction power, so with two power cars ten BL gas turbines.
Shame it will never run again as would love to hear it |

The Crewe APT is the electric APT-P the gas turbine one is APT-E that is at shildon
I'm pleased to report both have had a lot of care and attention in recent years and the E is permanently undercover now. The tilt systems on these were self acting unlike the Voyager's and pendalinos which are told to tilt by a trackside balise The press gave APT a hard time as several of them had spent the previous night in a free var paid for by BR and got travel sick on the train |

Was always annoyed my parents didn't take me to S&D 150
Another BL connection with the APT -E the suspension designer Kit Spackman went on to work for Austin Rover and played a big part in the Maestro turbo and his tweaks to the suspension is why it doesn't torque steer as bad as the montego turbo |

Ive never owned a montego turbo but have driven several they always seemed a bit more wayward especially in the wet to the maestro turbo I had.
Having said that I fitted with motobuild springs and koni dampers the day I bought it. I prefer the EFi to be honest better all round package. I still have one that will hopefully return to the road in next year or two |

Buying a LandRover made my addiction to MGR go away.... On the other hand it created a new addiction... :/

Gave the wife a hand to get her top off today, the first time the hardtop has been off since last November.
What glorious weather we are having, the summer is coming. |

Ditch the hardtop, Wes.
With a windstop and the heater on these cars, on a crisp sunny winter day, you can drive the MGF in comfort.

The hardtop came with the car Bob, I reckon it gives the car a whole new look when wearing the hardtop. plus it protects the green hood from those long wet winter days. Blooming heavy these hardtops, you certainly need two people to put on and take off. |
