Just a quick update on this thread. The wiring on the crank sensor had been to close to the exhaust downpipe and fried the insulation. New CP sensor and harness, everything is OK Securely strapped away from the exhaust.
Have to say that the bodgers had been there at some point earlier, so there was some kind of home-made harness made to the earlier CP sensor. All well on this one for now |

A common issue on the 1.8t - as the Crank sensor is mounted on the front bell housing behind the turbo -so the wiring can get fried - damage to these wires can also fry the ECU - i have recently re-sheathed the crank wiring with brand new heat resistant material.
