It Sounded So Easy - Gold Resistor

Each time I read how it had been done, how it should be done, I thought I can do that; so, having not had the required result I was to replace my original silver with the fabled gold resistor.

Watched several videos, read many posts and got to it.

Nobody mentioned that the moulding on the original support needs to be chopped, and nobody mentioned that the screwholes would be in different positions, and nobody said anything about the size of the resistor maybe coming into conflict with the fan.

I'm going out now, and I'll have another go tomorrow in between the showers.

Hi Fred.
Yes you have to drill two aligning holes in the gold resistor, if bought from Jules & the ones i do myself & fit at the Nano meets the holes are already drilled, i also use the original plate from the silver resistor when i can.

Easy drilled with an hand drill.

They can be drilled and fitted without the plate also.

No problem. I am not an expert here, one will be along shortly.

In the threads you will see many mentions of this; the original fitted in most of our vehicles was a silver coloured resistor, any replacement appears to be an upgraded gold coloured one, more reliable. My fan appeared not to work and with the advice on here, and to eliminate it from my fault finding, I am replacing it.

Of course George. It has twice the power rating of the original silver type so will be more reliable in the long term.
