A reasonable suggestion thanks: I will be having another go tomorrow, now armed with fresh ideas, thankyou to those who have contributed.

Or a slimmer alternative with integral solder rings?

It all depends on the pipe diameter. The system pressure will be limited by the header tank cap and these as we know can be faulty! Hot coolant is very dangerous so be very careful. A leak in the cabin at motorway speed frightens me!

Couple of threads here below which may help?

https://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/for...ead.php?t=7515

https://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/for...d.php?t=236157

I am almost sure there is another clamp on these matrix pipes in the foot well, a W clamp i think which allows some movement of the pipes so they can be joined properly?

That’s correct, it might give you that extra bit of wiggle that is sometimes needed

Many thanks chaps. Leaving the "W clamp" in place gives some rigidity but I will be out there in a little while to have another go. Thanks for the links and suggestions.

Solder on alloy pipes.------Don't think so.

( Plus, if possible, would be difficult to remove if you wanted to fit a new matrix. )
