Hi Paul
I had this once on the passenger door. The lock mechanism freezes internally and the latch doesn't drop. For the life of me I can't remember what I did to resolve it. Not sure if I didn't just poor hot water over the mechanism and then spray a decent water displacement fluid and lubricator into the mechanism. It's was years ago that I had the problem and it's not come back any winter since. Saying that not sure how many times we have had really cold snaps down here in the South West

Hi Paul,
My door recently did the same thing. I think I ended up spraying anti freeze in and then gave it a whack and it shut. But my door was kaput shortly after so I would advise extreme caution on cold mornings! - see my recent thread: https://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/for...d.php?t=310402 Quite a few posts with pictures from kind forum members that might help you understand the inner workings of the door better. |

poor hot water, not boiling water, on and around the lock area, then once you got it sorted spray all rubber door seals & door locks inside with silicone.

As Artic said, same thing happened to me about 2 week ago in that cold snap, passenger door would not engage when closing, hot water out of the tap sorted it and then wd40 silicone spray,
I wonder why it only seems to affect the passenger side doors ? John |

From what i recall, when posting on here about this happening to me many years ago, the Passat of the same era, suffered with this as well.
As said, silicone spray solved the problem Gave all a shot again every year, at the start of the cold season and never suffered the problem again. Also, be aware of the 'machine gunning' boot release, when freezing conditions prevail !! Regards, Dave. |
