Blown PSU (Or What!) ????
Last night I turned my PC off with the switch at the back of the PSU, I don’t usually do that - Anyway, tried to boot later on and nothing happened…there was however a Burning smell from the back and unless I am mistaken it was around the area of the PSU…
Strange thing was that there were various LED's lit on various cards, and the LED on my multi card reader…. Anyway to cut a long story short I have ordered a new PSU, (Ebuyer) …….What do you recon on the chances are that it is the PSU…??? Cheers!! |

If you can still smell a "burnt" smell from the PSU fan area, its pretty much certain. Hopefully its just the protection circuits that have went leaving your board intact, as you will notice when you go to replace it, there are many feeds out of the PSU, so its quite possible for one to go and the rest to keep going. (hence why some lights will still work) In the old days you would have been able to fix that bit, but with today's "disposable" society, its cheaper to buy a new one.
have a look at this. the other bit of that plug is still on the motherboard, and the PC would actually boot up with the plug like that, but would then crash about 3 minutes later.
