Just back from the test drive after fitting a new MAF.
Er......Wow!

I'd no idea how much difference that would make, nor how bad it had got. I thought that maybe it was a tad off but now, having changed it on spec, I realise that it was really rather duff.

As simple jobs that really transform a car go, that one's now top of my list.

Oil changed and oil, air, diesel, pollen filters changed. Think pollen filter was well overdue

Changed the fuel filter for the hell of it, cleaned the MAF sensor, Tcut and polished the body, cleaned the windows inside and out with autoglym. Anything to avoid football really!

I spent the day doing a How not to replace rear shoes. The nearside disc retaining bolt was mangled beyond recognition so I had to drill it out, so it was an absolute mare to line up the hub, disc and wheel on reassembly (now need a new hub !) The offside hub bearing parted company and the outside of the inner race is fused to the shaft.I had no option but to reassemble it after packing it full of grease and cross my fingers. I then discovered the reason why my handbrake was useless even with a modded compensator was because the offside cable had popped out of the compensator, so no need for new shoes. I then discovered the reason my carpet is sodden again is becuse the cover under the handbrake is missing, and most likely has been since the front cable was badly bodged in previous ownership by an alleged Rover specialist in Cardiff. So i'll have to source a new cover and have the interior out again ! I bought the ZTT as I really thought as a low mileage car I might get away with at least a few months of trouble free driving....
