Default £3 Redundancy for Rover staff

Well this was a long hard battle for some people. Absolutely disgusting the way they've been raped by the Phoenix Four.

Yes and it's £3 less postage !

It's an insult 6,000 workers get £3 that's £18,000 in total yet the Phoenix 4 walked away with millions !

And did they continue living the high life after the demise, you bet they did

It is disgraceful, but perhaps not unexpected. I notice that our wonderful journalists have not taken enough care with the article to get a picture of car production at the right factory - or indeed the right company. They are showing a picture of Land Rover production.

From what I heard from a worker at MG Longbridgde at the P.O.L who was a former MGR worker too the then LABOUR Government were just as much to blame too in as much as when the Phoenix 4 went to China to sign the deal with SAIC the U.K Government pulled the plug while the P4 were on the plane home = Now that is a discrace.
The LABOUR Government also would not give MGR a £100,000 bridging loan for 1 week which also forced the closure yet a few months later gave Peogeut £4,000,000 to build a new paint plant (but failed to state where it had to be built) = Pug closed Ryton in Coventry & built the paint plant in Poland with your taxes.
So in my oppinion they were just as bad as the 4 if not worse!

It's very easy to slag off BMW, but some people need to remember that if they hadn't bought Rover in 1994, the Factory would have closed 11 years sooner than it did and the 75/ZT would never have been produced!

They were also losing £1 Million a day and the losses actually threatened the survival of the parent Company.

At the end of the day, BMW made the right Commercial decision to "sell" (for £10) the Group, as they are a Ltd Company with shareholders, not a charity!

The problems with MG Rover, stem back a lot further than just under BMW's ownership and can be traced back to the feud between Lord Austin and Herbert Morris and the fact that neither actually knew what a car actually cost to produce and that despite producing the biggest selling car in the 1960's, lost money on every car they sold!

Good post, although BMW is often painted as the villian in all this it goes back much further.

Still £3 is nothing. There should be more, but at least we'll get some money back through bank loans repayed through taxpayer owned banks.

Thanks, it just annoys me when BMW get slagged off about this all the time!

As for the redundancy package, it's disgusting what happened to a loyal workforce and the blame does lay with the Labour Government of the time!

The daft thing is, that most of those that were made redundant, will still vote for them!
