Had to use the car today and everything seemed fine, the problem did not happen again. I guess I'll just need to keep an eye on it?
When I checked on Saturday, the clip was still firmly in place, keeping the filter together nicely.
Is there a way I could test the crank sensor, or are there maybe other signs that could point to the crank sensor being at fault?

Without fault codes, it's a bit baffling. They should be there. Check the Shannon tube (under/behind front wing) to the air filter/filter box (under the air filter) if you have one. They can deteriorate and the suction could pull parts through to the air filter box, starving the engine of air. Car slows, you feather the throttle and the loose bits drop to the bottom of the filter box, car speeds up again. I had a similar scenario with a maple leaf that got pulled into an air filter on a car years ago. Car would run fine until it needed max air, the leaf would upturn against the filter, effectively choking the engine. I'm clutching at straws now!!!

I had a similar problem a while back. Momentary loss of power on the motorway a few times and no codes. I changed the spark plugs, cleaned the cam position sensor and ran through some Redex. Problem solved. But not sure which did it (I suspect it was the plugs).

I guess I'll have a look at the shannon tube...
I don't know what it could be either, so any straw is welcome

As far as spark plugs and cam position sensor go: those were all checked about 6 months ago (my mechanic didn't know about fuel filter coming undone - neither did I, the search led me here - so when my car wouldn't start he checked pretty much every sensor, spark plugs etc to try and find why it wouldn't start).
Is it likely something offset them in the past 6 months or could I assume it's a safe bet they're all still good?
