I think smooth driving, tyres, low sped torque (i.e. diesel engine) and an automatic gearbox should all help. Even without traction control.
Last Winter my car did really well in snowy conditions even with only 3mm on my Vredestein Sessantas. The Bridgestone Potenzas that I replaced them with don't seem half as good even with double the tread depth. I think the broad diagonal bands on the Sessantas must be the key.

I put two new UniRoyals.. 195x65x15 on my fronts recently and the car has loads of grip even without my snow mode working.. :xmas-smiley-031:

225's may look nice but they were never designed to give more grip = bigger foot print = less weight per square inch on the road.. OK on nice dry roads but when does the UK do "dry" roads??
And, most tyres are fine on dry roads anyway...

Yes that is very true, Also helps a lot if you have traction

You could send Mr Reebs a PM see if there is something he can do? Could take a while to sort out that little issue by the sounds of it........what with it snowing again and the UK grinding to a halt AGAIN lol

I have 3 steep hills to go up on the way to work in this weather and my 190+ doesn't struggle at all. Kenda Kaiser tyres all round........as good as Avon ZZ3's in dry and they are better than those in the wet as well. In the snow the car has been faultless not got stuck once yet my ZS180 I used to own was a complete nightmare.......and that was even fitted with a Quaiffe ATB LSD!!!!

Have done the same for the wife 2 weeks ago after all the snow up here. Only had the 1.8 i shift Civic EX for 5 months but it had to go, now have the auto petrol CRV EX. The wife was a bit dubious about the size but after driving it for a few mins she loves it now. It hasnt snowed since I picked it up at Honda garage in Letchworth, Herts so cant comment how good it is. A mate of mine has just bought the diesel manual and he loves it. This is a good site also http://www.civinfo.com/forum/

at the end of the day it just comes down to how heavy a foot you got ... what is great about the auto box is that it creeps with out having to use the throttle ,so you are able to smoothly move off without the risk of spinning the front wheels ..the more throttle used the more you are likely to spin the wheels
