Wing mirrors
Hi all.
Smashed the glass in the off side wing mirror going to Bristol yesterday. The plastic back is also broken. The glass is dated June 2003 on the rear. Can anyone tell me if they are convexed or flat? Are they tinted or not? Rimmers are selling Australian ones for about £12 rather than £45. Are the Australian ones different? (the world appears upside down?) There seem to be a lot of cheap ones on shebay, has anyone bought one are they different than the original? Thanks. |

I bought a convex one from worldcarmirrors on ebay for the passenger side last week, it came with a new backplate which looked nothing like the origional so I fitted the new mirror to the old back plate, absoloute perfect fit with the exception of the heater contacts which was fixed by drilling a couple of new holes in the backplate. There are clips on the new backplate that should clamp onto the rear mount but I didnt try as I wanted to have the look of the origional and only the origional backplate wraps around the glass covering the edge of the glass.

As I understand it the Australian spec. ones must have flat glass rather than convex.
A few places on eBay are offering mirrors with a blind spot section on the outside edge. The backing plates aren't as large (and hence not as stiff) so the mirrors vibrate a bit more. Sticking some sound-deadening mat on the back of the glass in the places where the backing plate doesn't cover it helps a lot. The blind spot section doesn't cover everything but it is a significant improvement. Regards, Kearton |
