Default What's happened to car insurance?

Just been doing my annual trawl of the comparison sites as my insurance is due in a few days and from last year it has nearly doubled with most companies quoting £600 plus (age 52 with 9+ NCD).Been insured with Swiftcover for two years now and went online to complete the renewal as it was cheapest of them all only to find that they do not insure cat D cars, which mine is.They hold this information on their database and there is no legal obligation on the owner to find out this information so why don't they run your registration through the database when they accept your premium? This is the best quote of all though and I'm tempted to go for it,just got to find the £13,479 deposit and I'm good to go

any recommendations for insurance companies that will cover cat D cars at a reasonable price?

Holy NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-! Theres got to be something wrong there.

And even £600 for 9+ years NCB and 52 seems very pricy!

There are a few companys that deal with only over 50s, this might cut the price down (not sure by how much, but I'm also not sure if they are on comparison websites)

Check your details again, maybe even change your career on the quote! lol.
I'm 40 with 9+ NCD, and I'm a touch over £200 fully comp with Kwik-Fit Insurance.

Car insurance seems to have rocketed of late, something ado with the bumps people had this winter and personal injusry claims I've been told.

Sad when it's hitting guys like us, whom I would have thought were prety low risk in the grand scheme of things.

I think my postcode is a big factor and I did try SAGA for the over 50's and they were in the £600+ group

I like next to whitehawk in Brighton, I have to pay a few hundred more for where I live which is odd because there is no crime on my street on in my immediate area, just nearby!

Fortunately for me a few hundred wasnt that big a different relatively
I am in a very high risk group!

try castle cover (Just saw an advert for them) Not sure if they're any good but no harm in trying.

Just tried Castle cover, came up at £629

Just phoned Adrian Flux and have gone for TPF&T at £447 with key cover and some legal protection cover. No point going fully comp as they would only pay out a percentage due to the cat D.
Axa quoted £340 fully comp but won't touch it ,again because of the cat D.

Wow... I've just recently come to that time of year and couldnt believe the increase too! Mine has risen by almost £150 and that is with 9 yrs NCB with no bumps! Crazy!

A couple of companies who I have always had a pleasure in doing business with and have offered very good quotes are Adrian Flux and also Admiral... Good luck in the search for the cheapest!
